Getting a door mirror cut to size - LHM
It now seems that Halfords no longer provide a cut-to-size service for door mirror glass replacement (as used a few years ago).

Does anyone know who can do this?

There is a company called Summit www.summit-auto.com/ that does a cut to size mirror 'glass' sold in rectangular sheets through accessory shops. Idea is you make a cardboard template of your old mirror and then cut the plastic mirror to size and stick it over the old mirror.

IMO a bit of a bodge and not that successful when I sold them.

The company may list a proper stick over glass for your vehicle which is a much better bet.

I faced this question a year or two ago. Yes, you can buy "glass" in the right size for about £10 from most small accessory shops and Halfords. However, it won't be heated or wide angle.

Scrapyards would be my first choice, if it's a reasonably common older car. For new, I'd try GSF or a similar specialist factor if you want it for a Citroen. You look at a mirror so often (hopefully!) that a tatty looking stick on piece gets quite annoying.

I did recently buy a tinted Mercedes glass at Halfords for £11.99p made by Summit. It was special order, took about 6 days and was fine. Just ask at the parts desk.

Hi all,

A few months ago I was also searching for a mirror cut to size service because the mirror of my house windows were broken and so I was trying to replace them with the new mirror glass. Then, one of my friends suggested me a store that provides both 4mm and 6mm thicknesses and is made of only high quality glass. They also associate fixtures and fittings to help you hang your mirror on your chosen surface.

I had no end of bother getting glass cut to size for my vintage car - even when providing a perspex template.

But, the mirror glass I had to replace on a discovery was not that much more from the manufacturer than the halfords price. Certainly worth asking a dealer.

When I was in the motor trade (few years ago) the local glazier would cut one for a couple of quid. Flat glass and not shatterproof, but it did the job.
