Any insurance experts out there? I travel out to my clients each day. In effect my place of work each day is my clients place of business. Most insurance policies cover you to travel to and from your place of work. The question is do I actually need additional cover for business use?

yes.
They cover normal commuting to your normal place of work.
that said business use often doesnt make a difference to the premium - or so I've found.
What you do and the basis that you travel on makes a difference. My eg would be that as an IT contractor visiting a small number of clients on a regular basis there was no extra cost, I just explained to my insurer what I did and how I traqvelled and they were fine. (Class 1 business use I think they called it)

SWMBO works as a supply teacher and requires driving for business purposes on insurance to cover her driving to the schools she works at. When we sold her car I had to change insurer because they wouldn't allow 2 people having driving for business purposes on my insurance.
Seems strange to me as she is just driving to work, but I guess it is basically the same as Geoff's case.

Thanks guys. Just checked with my insurance company and they want an extra £5 for the business insurance. Not a lot in the scheme of things but it's amazing how much one spends on an extra quid or two here and there that doesn't seem much at the time.
I still cannot actually see where the extra risk is to the insurance company.Ho Hum

What was the issue there? Normally they'll cover a husband and wife (or modern equivalent) as standard.

When I renewed my insurance last year I found the insurance company had moved the goalposts - again !
Original cover was SDP ( social, domestic, pleasure) + business use without any restrictions: "to and from a place of work"
Following year included: "to and from a permanent place of work"
This was further identified as "a single place of work" - and as my then company was multi-site, I would have to upgrade my insurance for an additional premium !!!
The outcome was a change of company and full Class 1 use for only £10 more.
You MUST read the RENEWAL NOTICE very carefully.
They are happy to take your money, then refuse to pay out when a claim occurs.
The other thing to remember is to consider part-time/evening "occupations".
