As the title suggests, can anyone tell me whether the Toyota 2.0 D4D engine in a 2005 Avensis has a cambelt or chain?

According to H.J`s excellent FAQ summary on vehicles with chain cams, the answer would appear to be no and that the 2.0 D4D is belt driven.

If all MINIs including the diesel are chain cam, and the diesel used in the MINI is from Toyota then why isn't it listed under Toyota also?...unless BMW took Toyota's belt cam diesel and converted it to chain cam??.
Can anyone clarify?.

I don`t see the logic of your question.
If you care to check out H.J`s breakdown of vehicles (as per URL already given) with chain driven camshafts, it is clearly stated that all Minis, inc diesel from Yaris, are chain cam and under Toyota all Yaris are listed as chain cam.

I did check the list which is what brought about my question. The list doesn't clearly (or unclearly) state that the diesel in the MINI is from the Yaris, and I didn't know that the Yaris was the only Toyota model to use that engine so I couldn't have come to that conclusion without further information.
