I have a 2002 renault megane 1.9dti which has started to make a banging noise from behind the centre air vents. This only occurs upon start-up and lasts for about 10 seconds. Any ideas?

Does it have air con fitted?

I've also experienced a Megane doing this. It was the air input flap adjustment for the ventilation system, (not sure of the technical word). In the case i saw it only did it on the fresh air setting, if it was on recirculate it was quiet.
Its probably a faulty sensor which the system uses so it knows the position of the flap as the motor seems to keep trying to move the flap even though its already in the fresh air position and can't move any more hense the banging.

I have it too, but disconnected power to that motor.
Anybody have a suggestion on ho w to fix it??

The fresh air/recirc air flap mechanism has broken.Unfortunately the part can only be replaced as a complete assy with the air intake housing. If i recall this is about a £400 job at Renault,so most are left disconnected.
