Hi,
Have a very curious issue with power steering on AR147 2.0. After crusing (70mph or so ) for 20-30 mins I occasionally have experienced what feels like zero power steering when decelerating and steering-a very startling experience !! It only lasts a second or two and 'normal service resumes' - again, it's intermittent.
The fluid level goods and can't see any leaks anywhere
Anyone any ideas ? (besides taking it in to a rip-off Alfa garage that is !!)
Many thanks

Is the PAS electric or hydraulic on a 147? Might be a tiny electronic control glitch.
Without wishing to sound like a rip-off main dealer, maybe it's in the mind? After an extended spell at reasonable speed without much steering input the system might feel a bit heavier just briefly as you re-adjust? I'm sure my Hondas (Accord and Prelude 4WS) feel a bit like that from time to time.

Hi, it's hydraulic power steering. And it's definately not a case of 'feels a bit heavier' - the 1st time it happened I was merging onto a motorway from another, around a 30 degree bend - I had to seriously fight with the wheel to get round the bend (almost felt like the steering was totally locked for a split second!) and it felt like I wasn't going to make it !! Then, the usual response and feel came back-much to my relief :-).

Probably a sticking valve in the system. I once had this on a nearly-new Zafira that I was driving for the day. Very nasty when it happens.
