Astra Head gasket - P 2501
Hello all

A friend of mine has been told by her local garage that the HG has gone on her W reg 1.4l astra. She has been quoted £600 for repairs which i think is a bit pricey. This is not a dealer but a local indie. I have told her to shop around, but i was wondering if any backroomers have any experience of this repair on this engine and what she should be paying.

I am curious as to why the gasket has gone anyway, the car has only done around 30K, but is mainly used for short trips.

Could the person who diagnosed HG failure be mistaken, as the short trips could have built up mayo on the filler cap?

Is the car using water, or any other tell tail signs of HG failure?

Thanks for the reply. I havnt actually seen the car myself, but the garage told my friend it is leaking into the water system (pressurising). She reports no water loss or decrease in performance. She has not even lifted the bonnet herself to have a look!

I may be able to have a look at it later and will see if i can perform the usual tests.
