Could someone give me an idea what a 99 V plate VX Omega 2.5 v6 CD with 178k on the clock is worth, as I've been offered one on from work. Its in good condition, engine overhauled 33k miles ago, all the toys & fancy it since my last one died a death. Thanks in advance for any forthcoming advice.

Basically its worth almost nothing.
I buy/sell a few cars and if someone gave me one I wouldn't bother accepting it; too much of a liability. May be worth something as a breaker though.
On the other hand, if you are convinced its a good car (depends what the 'engine overhaul' included) and you like the Omegas then offer a couple of hunderd.

Basically its worth almost nothing.
Glass's guide is quoting anything from £700 (poor) to £1300 (excellent) trade in price. (with 150,000 miles on the clock)
Buy it for next to nothing, then trade it in for something newer with less mileage ;o)

Dealer's aren't stupid. Glass's Guide means nothing at this end of the market. They will either tell you to sell it yourself or take it, but then not negotiate down on the price of your newer car.
Currently the auction halls are full of older high-miles stuff that no one wants to bid on.

By way of comparison a 99V Mondeo 2.0L estate, 10 months MoT with one company owner and fairly good history went for £620 on Ebay a few months back. It was immaculate in and out, and tyres were good.
You might consider buying it for £250 and then putting it on Ebay - I'm sure it'd fetch £700 odd.
|
|
Doh - the Mondeo had 250,000 miles on it - hence the comparison.

If you had one before cumfray1, I say go for it! I had a 2.5 elite 3 cars ago and miss it dearly. Big comfy car, reasonably cheap to repair and lots of parts at scrapyards I would offer £500 and have a friend or a mechanic check it over before you commit yourself and if its a disaster then its cheap enough to walk away and its still worth something as a tradein!

tinyurl.com/g5jo8 for a recent sale of a comparable Omega

V reg could be old or new shape.
If it's cheap, enough, then go for it, they are so cheap, you can't afford not to have one.

Had a word with one of the mechanics at work about the Omega, the overhaul was a complete topend rebuild as the cam-belt went & the company are looking for around £500-£600 for it.
Thanks for the info so far, at this price I reckon I've nothing to lose.
|
|
That's an awful lot of car for 600 quid - to put it in perspective that's about the same as 3 oil changes for an Audi at a main dealer isn't it ;-)
|
I guess the big question is, how much MOT has it got, and (if not long) is there anything it's likely to fail on?
Anything much wrong with it and you might as well chuck it away.

|
It's MOT'd until end of October, taxed till end of May, spotless interior & in lovely metallic black.
|
|
The only common MOT failure I can think of on the Omega is worn suspenbsion bushes / traqck rod ends ( or whatever the equivalent on the Omega is)

Well even if you do only get the summer out of it, it's still pretty cheap and relatively luxury motoring.

|
The fact the cam belt's been done is a big plus as that's a £300 job. Go for it.
|
If you don't go for it, please let me know - email in my profile.

The fact that the cambelt "went" is reason to be cautious, an engine can be never the same again after pistons hit valves etc though a test drive should tell you if it feels reasonably crisp or harsh and lumpy.
|
Well it went to sealed bids & I won it for the princely sum of £465.96. Pick it up after the weekend once it's been serviced.
P.S sorry Vin

For that price cumfray, I don't see how you can lose! Such a big car with loads of stuff too!
Enjoy it!
