This offer looks too good to be true, has anybody used the broker?
tinyurl.com/m9q4b
It betters the broker4cars.co.uk price by about £1800. There does appear some inconsistency in the quoted list prices between the 2 suppliers and Citroen.

I could put up with the heavy depreciation at this price. The new model on the C4 floorpan is said to be at least 6 months away by one dealer, unless anybody can quote me different. Looking round locally at forecourt prices for used examples, there appears to be a £2k premium on used models over the discounted prices for new cars. OK, I know that this gives them a margin to negotiate on trade ins and may persuade some prospective purchasers that depreciation is not high.
Any comments

The discount seems to be good but do you really want such a large vehicle with only a 1600cc engine?
|
I've never dealt with this firm and nor have i heard of them. Having had a look at their website i'm not exactly impressed. They describe themselves as a marketing firm, the parts section gives me the impression that they're some kind of drop-shipper and the jap imports section is something your average broker doesn't get involved in
The combination of all this would make me cautious about giving them my cash. Pat at Carfile has the car slightly cheaper and has been in the trade for donkeys years.

It looks a good deal, includes air conditioning too.
I'd second the comment about a 1600cc engine, I test drove one and found it short on power and very bouncy (alarmingly so on bumpy back roads).
Several people at work have Picassos and seem to love them or hate them. IMHO take one from an ordinary dealers on a long test drive to see if you like it, I'd try and include an uphill motorway slip road, that's where it really showed up the size of the engine.
Best wishes
Big Norm

Thanks for the Carfile Link they look good, I will call tomorrow. Once again, their 'list price' is lower than the Citroen site. I wonder whether they are pre Euro 4 cars??? Also the differential between the LX and Desire models is the wrong way round!

i wouldn't be too worried by the odd error on carfiles website, Pat is distinctly old school and not really one for web design!

Car b Car review seems ok. I am trying to find one for an extended test drive. The 1.6 HDi has replaced the old 2.0 HDi engine. In this model it is specd to 110 bhp, altho other versions are 75 and 92 bhp.
Anybody out got one of these?

My pal has the 1.6 hdi and loves it. Very nippy, torquey and gets good economy. Pretty sure its the same engine as the Ford 1.6tdci?

Yep it's used in a number of vehicles from Peugeot, Citroen and Ford.

Had one for a few days as a courtesy car. I was very impressed by the engine.

It seems there is some confusion here.
The ebay car is a 1.6 16v 110 Petrol @ £9795. The same model from Broker4Cars is £9657.
Broker4Cars have the 1.6 HDi 110 Diesel at £11544, so the extra £1749 is the premium for a diesel engine.
Earlier Picasso's had a 1.6 8v petrol with 90BHP and a 1.8 16v with 115BHP. These have now been consolidated by the 1.6 16v as it meets EuroIV. Citroen did the same thing with the ordinary Xsara back in 2001.
I had a 2002 Xsara with the 1.6 16v 110 petrol and it was a pretty good engine. Did around 40mpg and is free revving enough when you put your foot down. Having tried a 1.6 HDi 110, I wouldn't say its worth £1750 premium and you'll never recoup that in fuel savings unless you do silly mileage.
|
Quinny thanks for that, I had just spotted that I had made a mistake in confusing the offer for 1.6 110 petrol (Euro IV) with the 1.6 HDi 110 Diesel (Euro IV). A premium of £1750 seems a lot for the Diesel!
To further confuse the issue, Broker4cars now has some pre EuroIV cars for sale including the old 2.0HDi. The premium for 2.0HDi is nowhere as much. (I am sure that these were not listed yesterday on their site).
Has anybody got the old brochure for the 2.0 HDi? Needless to say you can only get the new Brochure from Citroen!
Is there any merit in the Euro IV car ownership.

Unless you are running it as a company car then no there isn't any real advantage. The EU IV car may save you a 10 or 20 quid a year on RFL but the extra discount on the old model will probably save you a lot more than that.
The old 2.0 HDi is 90bhp compared to the 1.6 16v petrol's 110bhp but on the road the extra torque of the diesel will probably be much more useful than the 20bhp and it will be quite a bit more economical too.
