I apologise if asked before.
Y Focus Zetec SE, K45. Smooth box, but when changing gears from 1st to 3rd, engine has started revving higher (no squealing). When going back, no problem. When idle, I depress clutch but no problem.
Is it possible clutch problem or something else??
Thanks

Do I assume you miss 2nd gear and go directly to 3rd from 1st?
I suspect if you are regularly maltreating the gearbox and clutch in this way the clutch is starting to fail. Expensive job to replace!
Must be a wind up?

From first to third which means going from first to second to third. Hope it helps you understand.
Thanks for your response.

I regularly "skip-shift".ie.3 to 5;5 to 2.If you do it properly it will do no harm to your clutch or g/box.

Sorry, this is yet another post which is not answering the original question, I've no idea what the problem could be but the description is rather vague and is perhaps not helping in getting a useful response.
As jc2 and others have said there's nothing wrong with missing gears as long as you allow the engine revs to match for the new gear before releasing the clutch. So changing from 1st to 3rd is fine as long as you change gear a bit slower to allow engine speed to decrease. I sometimes change from 5th to 2nd at 30mph when coming up to bends and roundabouts etc. In 5th 30mph is about 1100rpm and a good prod of the accelerator will get the revs up to 3000rpm for 2nd gear and if you're lucky you don't even feel the clutch engage.

Whats the point of second gear ,of course it strains the clutch when changing up under load.

To get back on topic I think what Robert means is the revs are flaring up when changing up even though he's released the accelerator.
My advice would be to check the operation of the switch above the clutch pedal to make sure its working and correctly aligned.
