does anybody know why a air bag light should come on when air bag not activated?

I had a similar problem with a C Class - Garagae plugged in computer and reset it - turned out to be no problem just a phantom light.

Better getting it looked at than finding out it does not work in the event of an accident - equally if you had an accident and the bag did not go off it could limit the insurance cover due to driving about with a known problem.

Can you explain a little more what you mean by 'air bag not activated'?

The light used to stay on in the Clio we had, and it was always resolved by wiggling the connector under the drivers seat that (I think) fires the seat belt pre-tensioner. Don't mess with it while the ignition is on!

I have had the same problem as your goodself. I drive a dci model and took it my independent garage and they told me nothing wrong, reset the computer on the car and the light goes out now. I have also been told that the computer on the clio is very sensitive to the cold. I had this a couple times when freezing conditions but when it warms up, no problems.
Hope this helps!
