worn clutch - georgem
I have a pug 406 with 84k miles with a FSH, over the last few days, i have noticed the engine speed increasing with the without the speed, especially when the car is warm. This happens more so when driven hard. I suspect a worn clutch? i have a rang a few places and shocked with the difference in price from £160 supplied and fitted new to almost £300. What now?

help would be appreciated, thanks

Its hand in pocket time. Choose by recommendation. The cheapest is not necessarily the best. Especially if you are contemplating keeping the car.
I had a 405 a few years ago. The clutch alone was £120 and you are talking maybe 4 to 5 hours to fit. Prices may have dropped on the parts and specialist fitters may be able to do the job a lot quicker.

Ask them what they are going to do for the money ,it may be the cheap one is only going to change clutch plate and not renew the pressure plate and release bearing in such a case the dearest may be the best option. Is it a HDi?

Check & see if your local Peugeot main dealer has an Express fit department, You may get a shock how cheap they could do this job.
