and I may be some time.

It's snowing!!! And I'm about to undertake a perilous journey fraught with....peril.

It's like Lapland! I can't wait to wheelspin all the way there!

Still spring in Aylesbury! ;-)

Gorgeous blue sky, birds tweeting, not a breath of wind and comfy for walking in T-shirt and fleece.

Have "fun"!

Still spring in Aylesbury? Really? Move a few miles up the M40 then SjB, driving south up over the chilterns drove into a snowstorm on your side, from bright sunshine on the other side. By the time you get to JL at High Wycombe its sunshine again!

Really, really! An absolutely lovely day, hence leaving my laptop for an hour and going for a walk. Looking out of the window now there is not a single cloud to be seen.

Same here in Oxford, looks beautiful outside, mind you still about -1C according to the car temperature sensor!

Here's hoping for another clear night as I have a party of school kids to show around a telescope.

Is it not unseemly to be crowing about the balmy weather in the home counties when young Oates is out there in 40 below with wind chill factor 10? Just hope the oil doesn't freeze in his sump.

Hello. Still alive thankfully.

Well that was fun. Quite a few roads closed but in the main, once out on the major roads, it was more slushy really.

The weird thing is - on the way home from Uni before, I had my window open as it was really bright (and surprisingly warm) sunshine. And then all of a sudden, snow!

Coming back onto the estate was fun. Untouched snow and even crawling along the steering was going light. It was really difficult to get the car into the drive too! Still - made some really awesome patterns in the street. I tried a figure of eight but the street's just too narrow.

Tune in at 22:30 for another updated report as I'm going out again in 20 minutes. Remember, you heard it here first.

Adam, young feller my lad, do take care.
Long ago and far away, in my student days, in the wilds of East Angliaiaiaiaia, I woke up to pristine snow one morning - lo and behold, I thought, there is an abandoned airfield up the road (Little Snoring - Honest !), get out and have a larf.

And if a farmer were to plough up part of the runway at a point where two runways cross, leaving the rubble build up into a ridge, and one was pounding down the main part of the runway, and all about was white, one might not notice the ridge of rubble under the snow.

In such a situation, one might find one's mini clubman perched atop a ridge of rubble, teetering backwards and forwards with no wheels on the ground, incapable of being moved by force of man, or indeed by force of the citroen pallas (i think), owned by the nearest resident who offered to help (god bless him -would you get out of bed on a Sunday morning to help some student who'd been larking around)

and one might discover that the airfield was not quite as abandoned as one thought, as a little Cessna flies about ten foot above ones car !

And one might end up watching sunday morning television with a farmer's wife and her children (there ought to be some sort of joke there, but the daughter was only about 4) waiting for the farmer to come back, mobile phones being sience fiction at the time (and some say the technology has yet to reach parts of norfolk)

and it is all true....

Go on, get out of the car...

A sage warning borasport...But you can't tell these kids... {giggles and runs off}

I was surprised tonight the amount of people getting agitated and driving aggresively through Halifax. A whole load of snow had brought the whole place to a halt and yet there were still people spinning wheels in traffic and sitting inches off bumpers on snow covered (3-4inches) roads with only the two black lines of wheel tracks to drive in. Nutters.

But seriously Adam, go and have some fun but do it somewhere out of the way where you can slide off in safety where there's noone else around to "bump" into.

I recall finding out that you could pirouette the old (ahem) Maestro if you were a little incautious with the handbrake. Only did it the once, scared the bejesus out of me!!

One also might think that one is every bit as skilled as Hanu Mikola, and that one has full control of a RWD Fiat 131 on a snowy road. One might also discover that the fence to the duck pond is not as strong as it seems, fortunately one might discover that the duck pond itself is not very deep, but quite impossible to drive out of.

This might happen at West End village Esher.

131=Mirafiori?? Yep, can share the experience, except I was lucky enough to have lots of Forestry Commission roads nearby so avoided the duck pond. Needed a shovel and couple of mates to dig it out a couple of times though! Was yours (our your Dad's in my case!!)bright yellow? Did it rust away in about 3 years? Good engines and good fun though!

Well it has to be said a duck pond does not help. It might have lasted to three years without it.

Nope, a Mirafiori just needed a bit of rain, or if it didn't rain, a bit of fresh air and the occasional wash, in order to rust away in 3 years flat. I did enjoy it to drive though - a sort of poor man's Alfa. Helped to make you poor - try trading in a pile of rust.

Hello!!! Here I am!!!

Dreadfully sorry for causing any undue worry chaps. I managed to safely negotiate the icy roads of Gtr. Manchester and Merseyside but was so tired when I got back from being taxi (3am) that I decided to go straight to bed thinking

"They won't mind a delayed Snow Watch - I'll do it in the morning"

Well - let me just apologise right here and now in case any of you decided to postphone any journeys because of my missing weather report. Contrary to popular belief, I wasn't in the pie shop (well I was but only for a short time) but I was actually frantically trying to recover pieces of work from my fast dying computer which promptly died.

Soooo, to cut a long (and pretty interesting) story short, I didn't crash but my computer did. I had no net access until today and am just about crawling along on it now.

Thanks again for your concern although I'm yet to see any search and rescue parties looking for me.

Still, it's the thought that counts ;-)

Well the snow has finally reached Central Scotland! Woke to a total whiteout this morning and still snowing! They have been promising the worst winter ever and we finally get snow in the middle of March!

Will be going out to play soon...

I've been sat in the computer room and looking out onto the snowy 6" and a road which only serves around 200 houses. I have observed several cars leasing the estate completely covered in snow with partially cleared windsreens, they slip and slide down the road only to came back 10 minutes later. These nutters are clearly just popping out for their Sunday News Paper, how daft can you get. Nice and warm inside. Regards Peter

There's a good few inches once you get out of Leeds into the surrounding countryside. Just got back from 3 hours on the bike, still defrosting. I tried to clean the bike but the mud was frozen solid to the frame, so it's sitting in the hall with some newspaper underneath.

Well had a great day in the snow, managed to make the kids an igloo with a roof on it!!

Couldn't believe my eyes through when I saw a neighbour a few doors up brushing the thick snow off his 06 Reg New shape Civic with a normal sweeping brush! Not sure if the brush normally was used inside or for his driveway but the bristles on it were cerainly stiff enough to get rid of the snow quickly!

Drove back from Caernarvon this morning to Manchester and it was fine to begin with then got very, very snowy very quickly, nothing coming the other way and only two thin black lines in 6 inches on snow to drive on, slowly.

Blizzard conditions and insanity to drive at much more than 10-15mph for everyone who wanted to see another week on this earth. Of course, this didn't apply to about five raving launatics who thought that the second lane (virgin snow, 6" deep) would be ideal to drive in at 40-50mph. They managed to fly down past the long, long, long line of traffic spewing snow over everyone they passed. Didn't see what happened to them as we got off the road into a little chef, but I hope they didn't take anyone with them as they went backwards through the barriers. Had to be seen to be believed.

Glad to get home and into the warmth!

We awoke on Sunday morning nice and early to drive 30 miles to visit a hotel with a view to booking it for our wedding.
Looked out of the windows and went "I don't think so!" thanks to the foot of snow that had fallen overnight!

We did however have to go about 2 miles to collect our son from his Grandad's. This journey took us about 15 minutes on very snowy roads. The A75 (main "Euor-route" to Ireland) hadn't been touched by a plow and had a good 6 inches of packed snow on it. In town roads were barely passable.

Our return trip (half an hour after leaving) took 2 hours! Most of this time was spent digging the car out after it got stuck and about half an hour of digging it into our drive!

They tell you not to venture out unless it was really neccessary, but in this case it was. If we had left later in the morning, then we probably woudn't have got there, let alone back!

We finaly saw a snowplow at 3:30pm and it was gritting - not plowing!

Thankfully the main roads are now clear, although there are plenty of side streets and minor roads that are still blocked.

Well done Adam, Captain Lawrence Oates's last words are alleged to have been "I am just going outside and may be some time", prospectively a reference to checking his (Hillman) Husky, if that's not to light a reference to a very brave man ....
