Hi (again), a replacement gearbox is on it's way for our 1992 Rover 214 16v cabriolet. My next dilemma is the viscocity of the oil to be replaced? My trusty Haynes manual tells me that HYPOID GEAR OIL 75W-80W GL-5 is to be used for topping up only and to contact ROVER DEALER for exact spec. I'm hoping that you (STEVE???) can help me quicker than calling my dealer tomorrow!! thx

Your need an EP75W-80 oil. Comma Oils make a suitable lubricant which should be available in most motor factors.

Halfords also sell their own brand of 75w/80.

Apart from what Aprilia said and agree with, clutch replacement plus cable should-correct the problem, though where is the box coming from?,ie is it recon or scrapyard and has it a warranty?.would be weary of scrap yard types!

Hi, Steve. Didn't change the 'box in the end, risked a new clutch kit and cable. Luckily this payed off as the gear selection is better than ever and the clutch action is better than when we bought the car. However, thx very much for your advice....
