Just found this on ebay.Driver stopped to help and ended up with a convertable, courtesy of the fire brigade.Item 4613207988

How very bizarre - exactly the same thing happened to a (nearly new) police car a few mths ago.
|
I wonder if the injured person really did have any back injury or not when they were examined...

|
It has got to £2650, so far!
|
Strange story- why did they need to cut the car to pieces to attend to an injury?
And who bids £2650 for this?
|
The 'injured' person maybe needed to be lifted vertically out of the car, perhaps on a stretcher, and could not be manoeuvred out of the door. Thus the roof is cut off; I should think the car is easily worth £3K for break up as spares.
|
Oh dear, that's funny, I saw this last night while looking at x types on ebay, but after seeing the pics, I didn't bother with the description - thanks for that!
|
Years ago,I had some personal experience of firemen(not making a convertible);they do like to use their toys/gadgets.
|
did I read somewhere (on here?) about people who have accidents suddenly claiming to have back and neck injuries?
The ambulance crews wont remove you unless you are braced up, and the only way is through the roof - so off it comes.
When this is explained to the "victim" they suddenly feel much better with no back or neck problems.

Well if I had a spare 5 grand - Me
All the doors are there sooooooo
On they go, weld them shut. Roll over bar - in she goes. Make up new screen and surround.
For 5 grand you now have a unique open top vehicle.

"unique open top vehicle"
Indeed! But not worth five grand, I imagine.
You have to be impressed by cutting equipment that can saw a windscreen straight across, though. I wonder how he worded his insurance claim?

To make it easy...

Well it could have been worse, the injured party may have sued the helpful driver for causing his back problems by 'helping' him into the Jaguar.

"TOP SECTION OF DASHBOARD HAS SMALL MARKS AND TEARS FROM THE GLASS."
Tears from the owner, too, I imagine...

third party motor trades risk means a small electrical fire cost me £5000 adam as the truck was beyond repair after they put their jaws on it
Thanks for the advice.

No problem.
At least you're alive eh?
|
it was parked up i wasnt in it . :( and it wasnt locked they had already put the fire out by opening the door and decided the truck was now scrap and used their pincers on it for practice. This is what bystanders saw but i was 5 minutes too late to stop them.S/H replacement recovery truck cost me £50000.

....Okay let's believe the story. How come it was damaged to its rear and the fire service had to force the boot open to get personal items out..?

The boys would have killed the electrics, probably just chopped the battery lead. Not sure if the key would still work?

A lot of cars get damaged at salvage holding yards where people come over the fence to steal cd players etc they always go to the expensive cars first,im not saying this is the case here but is plausible.

Questions PU?
So who pays for the owners loss?
Do the Fire Service have the right to do this on just the request of the ambulance service, or do they require the permission of the owner?
Can the car owner rightfully refuse to allow it to happen?

My heart sunk just reading that!
Why did they assume it was scrap? Surely one of them must have known that a motor trader could easily fix damage caused by an electrical fire! You should have sued them for damages, causing unnecessary damage to it. They have their own cars for practise, not other people's.

Amazed to see that it fetched nearly £4k. I know the mechanicals will have some value, but there can't be much demand for new engines/gearboxes just yet, can there?
|
Was with a couple of friends last year when one of them fell off a sea wall (don't ask...) and hurt his back and neck. We got him into the car we travelled down in (brand new Mini Cooper S) and drove him to the hospital.
When we arrived at A&E the paramedics weren't keen on moving him, and said to the driver, "I think we're going to need to cut the roof off."
I've never forgotten the look on his face. Fortunately, injured friend managed to slide out sideways and no roof chopping necessary.
|
What happens when people have accidents in their homes? I suppose they cut off the roof and upper floors and use a crane or helicopter?
|
I believe a stretcher is traditional...
|
The cynical side of me says that someone who starts feeling back pain just as the emergency services arrive has just had dollar signs light up in their eyes.
If he'd done that in my car, I'd have been hard pressed to resist the urge to drag him out before the firemen could get there.
