Drivers' Survival Handbook - Theunisse

I've seen an advert for this book (The Drivers' Survival Handbook) in the back of Top Gear magazine and wondered if anyone has bought the book and what they thought of it.
Drivers' Survival Handbook - Dwight Van Driver
I had heard of this book before and wondered. This post activated wonder into action. It's own site lists at some £24 but I went EBay and obtained new copy for just over £16 including £3.99 postage. First scam as GPO stamp was 83 pence, say a quid for the envelope then £2 profit already on postage.

Book resembles a cheapish softback and worth in my humble opinion about the £8 mark.

Contents. How to escape points and fines mainly for traffic offences. Well anybody with an interest in motoring and visiting forums similar to this one or reading DT Motoring Sat motoring section and similar, will be aware of the majority of its contents. My copy allegedly the 2006 edition contained a number of inaccuracies both minor and major. One of the major ones was that one should not sign the 172 Form to name the driver which we all know from last year High Court Case has to be or offence committed (£60 3 points). It also by inference advises, despite being guilty of an offence to use deception and subterfuge to escape conviction. Little reference to the actual law itself only using the Highway Code rear section as its bible and no High Court cases by name.

It is stated that a catalogue record of the book is available from the British Library (ISBN 0-9541187-3-1 Streetwise Publications) so it may be that your local Library may be able to get a copy from their store at Wetherby?

My only recommendation would be that serving Plods should,if they get chance read, it as it does highlight where they go wrong at times, but there again they will know this after a case has been thrown out.

It would have been a waste of money for me as in my 34 years of driving I have never had any penalty points, endorsements, fines, convictions or even been stopped by the police on suspicion of any infringement! Oh,I forgot, one parking fine for infringing confusing wording of signs but I got off because the letter I got accused me of a different infringement to the one I had committed!

Much better to buy the Highway Code,'Driving' and 'Roadcraft'.
