No one in the Backroom own one?

A friends got one, the first one he had was one of the first new Discos, around Oct 04, troublesome, electrical probs, Land Rover / the dealer gave him a new car in early 05, that has been fine.

Friend has one of these, under 10k miles, bought it new. Very refined and relaxed motorway cruiser, virtually silent 100mph returning alleged 27 mpg. At 8k miles or so the turbo packed up without warning, leaving the car struggling to reach 70. Repairs under warranty took a month.
Does the turbo on a diesel car have to be idled for a few minutes after a fast run to let it cool down, like the turbo on a petrol engine?

I would have thought so. We simmer ours after a long fast run. Most important at service stations. As its a two mile drive from the motorway junction to home at 30mph, that does the simmering for us as we get home.
