Just a cautionary note, the road authorities are installing at least four speed cameras. Two northbound and two southbound. Between junctions 1 and 2.

Or for people like me who can't remember the numbers, between Hambrook and Eastville, or Ring Road and IKEA

Oh great. Thanks for this warning. The markings have been down for a while, but no cameras.

To any of you unfortunate enough to have to visit Bristol in the near future, you're probably better off using the A4 Portway in and out of the city. Our wonderful council, despite having no public transport policy, has more or less closed the motorway in and out of the city in order to build a new shopping centre. Speed cameras make it even more of a pointless road.

Bristol is now entirely surrounded by roadworks and cones. It's tedious.

I lived in Bradley Stoke for 5 years between 1999 and 2004 whilst working at Rolls Royce and for the first 2 or 3 years of that there were roadworks at the M4/M32 junction, Almondsbury Interchange, Avon Bridge on M5 and they were building the missing link to the Avon ring road. Sounds like nothing much has changed. Mind you in the first year of living near Bournemouth we suffered months of road works on the Wessex Way and the A338 spur road.

Won't slow the locals down much though will it? Indeed perhaps the roadworks and cones are being put there to save their blushes. Slowest drivers in the country.

There's many things to describe Bristol drivers and slow is not one of them. Colour blind yes, Impatient maybe but slow no. Try the James Barton Racetrack, sorry roundabout during rush hour(s) or the Avon Ring Road F1 curcuit at anytime of the day or night. The fastest bits are from Hicks Gate upto Longwell Green and then from Warmly up to Mangostfield.

Thank you Morgie. How very cheering. I must have misjudged the Bristolians, unless they have suddenly changed.

More fun from Hambrook to Emersons Green - got to beat the red lights!

Thanks this will go around the office immediately. It would be nice to get above 20 mph on the M32 inbound in the morning or outbound at night!!

For a while in the early 1990's I lived in Clifton and it always took ages getting anywhere in the city. Seems not much has changed. Shame as I used to like going to that exclusive department store - John Lewis?

I've lived in Somerset for 20 years and have regularly travelled to Bristol over that period. Before I lived in the South-East and in the Midlands. As in any city, most drivers are careful and it's the bad minority that get noticed. However, on that basis I'd put Bristol pretty low on Britain's driving standards league table.

"Shame as I used to like going to that exclusive department store - John Lewis?" ....Sadly no longer there - gone to Cribbs Causeway.
