The 2.2 petrol engine has, as well as some of the diesels, but no idea about the 1.8. The main purpose of a DMF is to keep vibration and noise down on start up.

The following thread will explain about DMF's.

Petrol engines don't normally have them.

They are basically a spring-coupled two-part flywheel used to isolate torque impulses from Diesel engines. Stops the impulses reaching the transmission. Basically they ensure that the torsional resonant frequencies of the engine and transmission don't match. The main reason they get wrecked is that the engine isn't running smoothly (faulty injectors etc) or someone has 'chipped' the engine.

From the info I found via google, it would appear so:-

www.migweb.co.uk/forums/archive/index.php/t-17134

"The two DTi engines (2.0 and 2.2-litre) are closely related. Additional comfort - especially when starting the engine - is provided by the dual-mass flywheel included as a standard feature with both engine types."

(It's approx 2/3rds the way down the page)
