according to the regional news pages (granada) on teletext tonight, a Prestwich man has been allowed to keep his licence having accumulated 31 (thirty one) points.

Teletext is not a 'content rich' source of information, so if anybody knows anything more, I'm curious to know

Espada III - anything in tonights MEN ?

I spotted this too. Apparently he has always pleaded that he needs his car for work and so escapes from bans under totting up. As I have mentioned elsewhere, I suspect funny handshakes with the magistrate are involved (speculation on my part).

nowt wrong with that.

very surprised he can get insurance, would not want to be paying the sort of premiums they will be charging this guy. was bad enough many years ago with 14 points VERY VERY EXPENSIVE... cheers...keo.

Ths is quite a long url so it may not work so in case it doesn't here's a summary of the story:
Mr Teflon represents himself at the mags court pleading unusual hardship if he gets sent down (some tripe about his new business), Co-Co the Magistrate says fair enough, the fact that you are a total menace and shouldn't even be given control of a Corgi is much less important than the safety of the public in my view.

Mr T attributes his success to being "very humble, dressing smartly and saying sorry" (I'm not making this up).

So next time folks you tot up that annoying 30th point just pray that you're in Salford and that you have a sober suit in your wardrobe. Mind you if you share the streets of Salford with this bozo a dark suit, black tie and sombre demeanour may well feature in your life or that of a loved one rather sooner than you might wish.

Oh for German traffic law everybody is treated the same every offence has a punishment you receive niether more nor less no matter how much you squirm. Maximum fine issued for driving without insurance at the courts Bradford last week was £40 there is no incentive to be legal. At Bradford car auctions(scrapyard or graveyard)two weeks ago I was offered tax discs with bar codes ,mot certicates, log books, licences and insurance cerificates it makes me wonder how many illegal drivers are out there magistrates are in their own little world and still believe in Noddy and toytown.

From that press report:

>>>>Loophole

Mr Englander returned to court on a charge of failing to produce insurance papers - but he escaped any more points when Manchester motoring law specialists firm Geoffrey Miller found a legal loophole. <<<<<<

Like yes.......Fail to produce Insurance Certificate only attracts a max fine of £1000/ NO POINTS (RTOAct 1988)

Notice how BRAKE start ranting about his 'dangerous driving',not what he was charged with.
How many points ? - Lud
According to the story on the front of today's Terrorflag he had only once had three points for speeding. All the others were for a succession of non-driving offences (although no insurance is pretty serious in most people's opinion, not just mine). Still, the way the curb-Toad brigade always assume that motorists in trouble with the law are 'menaces' makes me laugh.

Being a driver carries with it certain responsibilities towards other road users, having insurance being quite an important one. This clown thinks that doesn't apply to him and he thinks a suit and an unctuous manner equals a right to be cavalier. I disagree with him.

I know of Mr Englander and so prefer not to comment in public what my thoughts about him are.

Next time we meet Mike (borasport20), I can reveal a great deal more than the Manchester Evening News would print.

Yeah come on Espada. Get us banned from the internet.

The guy did look a bit seedy but he had a Lexus and had been having all kinds of difficulties. No excuse of course but might just constitute a reason. Which of us wouldn't like an intelligent, compassionate magistrate when the carp finally hit the fan? And perhaps the magistrate just wanted to get into the Guinness book of records. 31 points and still waddling about in silent gas-guzzling splendour! Chapeau!
How many points ? - mss1tw
How exactly do you get banned from the internet? :-S
How many points ? - Happy Blue!
If I remember correctly, he had dealings with a few people and the experience was such that they put pictures of him at two motorway roundabouts in Manchester where he lives and works advising people about their alleged experiences.

(Mods - I hope that is sufficiently bland to stay up?)

I have always said the we in England have the best justice system that money can buy.

In the 1980's I was witness to a dreadful accident in which a 9-year-old girl was killed in a head-on collision. It was caused by a company director driving very fast in his BMW, overtaking a long line of traffic on an uphill curve. He crashed into a car coming the other way (at modest speed) and the girl was killed more or less instantly.

There were half-a-dozen witnesses to his terrible driving. I was at court and was absolutely amazed when he got off with about a £400 fine and some points. He was obviously well off, paid for a good legal, and was very well spoken. Told a tale about how his company would go bust and 30 people would lose their jobs if he got a ban. Afterwords he stood on the court steps with a great big grin on his face. Absolutely no remorse.

What I found even more astounding was at the tale end of the report I read. This case follows the one for builder Stuart Waters, who escaped a ban last November after accumulating 30 points ..... stopped five times for driving WITHOUT a licence, after claiming a ban would cost him his job. Now, exactly why did we bother to pay for lessons and pass a test?

Work probably didn't ask: i know someone who has worked for a utility for 10 years, been driving a Transit with orange flashing lights and towing a compressor for all that time.

Passed his test last year!

>>i know someone who has worked for a utility for 10 years......

You should have reported it, thats a fair old risk for the poor sucker who gets hit by him.

And if he was from the major utilities, then he absolutely was asked repeatedly over the last 10 years - a couple of times in writing where he would have had to sign a form.

I'm also surprised that his supervisor didn't have to sign the form saying that he had physically seen the licence. - Or perhaps he did.
