A friend at work has an Escort 1.8 Si P reg.
he has been told he has a problem with the Idle Control Valve but, can't actually locate it on the vehicle.
Can any one provide a clue where to look?

Be quick before the sale ends (and link is removed - this is the only phot I could find from a quick Google) but this is what it looks like: search-desc.ebay.co.uk/ford-escort-idle-control-va...2
It will be somewhere on the inlet manifold since it works by regulating air intake at idle.
If anything like the one on my wife's 306 they gum up and stick. I tried cleaning hers to no avail and fitted a new one. Typical new costs are £50-£80.

The idle control valve sits at the back of the engine below the inlet manifold.Very difficult to see from above ,a bit easier from below. If changing this valve ,I would strongly suggest disconnecting battery -valve sits right next to starter motor.

Try BBA reman for a new valve (type in BBA reman on Google), they are a bit cheaper than Ford.
