Before using an indy check the prices of your local BMW dealer - you might be pleasantly suprised.
I get all my servicing and minor repair work done at the main dealer now for only a few pounds more than the independants in the area -
Oil Service is about £130
Inspection 1 I paid £210 all in
Handy hint is to supply your own oil - as long as its BMW Approved this is fine and saves you 30-40 quid.
Some BMW dealers also go above and beyond the 4Plus scheme, Scothall in Hampshire offer ServicePlus for 6 year old cars - 50% off labour, 30% of parts and fluids. This means an oil service is well under 100 quid and an Inspection 2 even is just £265.
With prices like that why bother going anywhere else? You even get coffee in a posh cup and an 08 plate loan car.

Thanks MichaelR.
I used to use the main dealer in Chester, but the price differential is just too high.
For example, I was quoted £250 for an Inspection 1 plus a further £200 for an annual inspection. My independant did both jobs for (just) under £250.
I like the tip about supplying my own oil - thanks, I didn't realise it would save so much. Is there a favoured place to by the oil?
Thanks again.

Is there a favoured place to by the oil?
if the car can use Mobil 1 then Costco is about the cheapest, if you or a friend have membership.
It's £23.50 inc VAT there for 4L, although it's been that price for years and I keep expecting it to go up.
I supplied my own oil to MB Chester when they did the first service on my Merc - they charged then (this was 2+yrs ago) £12.95 +vat per litre - so the 6.5L my car needs would be near enough £100. I'm astonished that they'll cheefully throw away what must be £70+ of clear profit by using customers oil. They didn't even tack on an oil disposal charge.

Hi There,
I've just purchased a 2006 330D and I work in Chester I was just wondering did you use an independant in Chester? It would be really handy as I will most probably have the car serviced while I'm at work.
Cheers!
