A while back (2 years ago?) I saw a report on a French (or I thought that it was French - I suppose that it could have been Swiss) Motor Show, that was taking place in the first quarter of the year. It might have been Nice, or somewhere close to Nice. It caught my imagination, and I quite fancy trying to go to a continental show. Does anyone know which one it was and where I can find more info on it? Thanks...

The Paris show alternates with Frankfurt each September. They're both worth a visit - the Frankfurt one is huge and takes a couple of days to do properly. The French one is, IMO, not quite as well organised and usually a bit over crowded but well worth a visit.

It wouldn't have been the Geneva Motorshow? That's a big one I think and starts March 2nd I believe.

Yes, I think that it might have been the Geneva show. I wanted to go, but don't want to spend a fortune - Switzerland is expensive! Anyway, work has intervened, so I won't get the chance now anyway.

Must be a personal thing, but I can't stand motor shows. In the days when it existed Earls Court used to mess up the traffic at my end of town. Only ever went once, and hated it.
Rubbish in the press and on TV about the most-hyped launches. Storms of road tests by uncritical motoring hacks. Tiresome arguments about whether cars and lap dancers really go together.
Bit better in the fifties when the Paris and Geneva salons had Soutchik-bodied Alfas and Graber Bentleys, and when Ferraris were for drivers not millionaires (well, both actually but you see what I mean). And here, those Docker Hooper-bodied Daimlers (Daimler then belonging to BSA of which Sir Bernard Docker was boss) covered in gold stars with Lady D standing in for the lap dancers. Celebrity culture a new thing? Don't make me laugh. I wanted to go then, being pretty young, but didn't live in London and never got round to it. Wouldn't dream of it these days. But I don't expect anyone to agree.

Well, I am a bit younger than you (although not enough!!) and I have worked at nearly every European and UK show since 1999. Too hot, overhyped, hours are crippling....
If it wasn't for the parties I wouldn't go! : )
Geneva is the worst in terms of horrible snooty people and heat, BUT it does have the reputation of the best girls, especially on the Alfa, Fiat and Lancia stands.
If anyone wants my "La Dolce Vita" powerpoint presentation, please let me know...

If any Backroomers are thinking of coming out to the Frankfurt motorshow in the autumn let me know, as I may be able to sort accomodation (hotels charge 500% normal rate for the big trade fairs)
