Fiesta EAC Fail - wilts_ian
Ford Fiesta 1.4 02 reg.

About 5 months ago, with no warning I have had the EAC FAIL warning come up on the dash (where the fuel & mileage panels flash), power to accleration reduces. I pulled over and switched the engine off for about a minute, restarted and was able to carry on my way. I took it to the Ford Dealer and they reprogrammed the unit which cost about £80.

The fail came up again last night shortly before I got home, again I was able to pull over, let it rest for about a minute and everything is fine again. I'm hesitant to take it back to the garage for them to charge me again, and perhaps have the fail come up again in the future.

Is it ok to drive, and hope that it doesnt come up again?

or how much would it cost to have it replaced rather than re-programmed ?

This is pretty common; it's usually just the accelerator pedal/position sensors assembly going down. Might be worth cleaning the plug's contacts; but as the whole thing comes as a lump and takes around five minutes to fit [for very little money]it might be best to just pop a new one in.
