I once drank 3 litres of a red bull type stuff in one evening. I was violently ill later that night and I couldn't sleep for about 4 days.

I didn't drink the stuff for about 3 years afterwards.

Suspect the history of mental illness is more relevant than the consumption of Red Bull.

IIRC there's smoethign else in red bull apart form caffeine that helps you stay awake. With me it can take two to three hours before it kicks in, so have to drink it early on in the evening if I want to be awake late at night.

As a bet someone I knew drank 5 cans of the stuff. Became incredibly paranoid, and like blue haddock didn't sleep for about a week.

It's good as a temporary "wake me up", but to drink 20 cans he must be insane.

the vanilla smell is like milk ( or even custard!)

I drink that too. Full of antioxidants and less tannin too. Nice with honey and lemon...

Why on earth would anybody want to stay awake at night?

Actually, you could try Red Bull mixed with that new High-Melatonin Milk. It is milk that apparently helps you sleep at night.

So.....you could end up half asleep....or half awake!

I regularly go clubbing in London and teh clubs don't tend to start livening up until midnight and don't finish until 4 or 5am. Do you realy want me driving home half asleep when a well timed tin of red bull will keep me wide awake?

Nettle tea - feel like 20 again. Self preservation as well, no one dares touch me.

Sorry Spikeyhead.

When I was young, we used to go to a "Dance" or a "discoteque" Even then, it was only until...oooooh.....midnight?

"Clubbing" was what we did to 4 legged creatures to get food for the family.

Now, once the bongs come on for news at 10, it is off to bed with my cup of hot milk.

RE: GIVING UP TEA.

Great idea. Tea and coffee just seem to be the obvious thing to drink, but having given it up for Horlicks and green tea, I feel a lot more alive and energetic. Taken years off how I feel. Amazing really...and one item completed from my new years resolution.

Regarding red bull, I drove to poland and after having just one can, can say I could have stayed awake for one week. Must be very unhealthy, but a lovely emergency tool!

Must try this Red Bull. Sounds as if it might almost work.

I drank two cans on the way back from the NW meet and was still feeling a bit sleepy, it did kick in a bit later on in the evening though and I certainly didn't get to sleep straight away, but I did sleep ok once I got off.

I'm normally pretty good with the timings of the cans, but completely forgot to take the enormous delay factor into account on that particular night.

I think it's great stuff if taken at the right time and in the right quantity, creates a particularly powerful buzz when mixed with copious amounts of Vodka. ;-)

Here in Asia green Chinese tea is very popular; if you've ever been to China you will have noticed the ever-present covered mug on every office worker's desk. Lately it has appeared under brand names with a fruit flavouring and is delicious. It tones up the body works, is full of anti-oxidants and is great for a lift without any adverse effects whatsoever.

I always drink green tea before/during a long ride/drive: it perks me up, is a great way to rehydrate in tropical heat and not full of sodium like fizzy sodas: I don't like coffee and as someone said, regular tea is full of stuff than leaves your mouth full of deposits.

Red Bull is dangerous stuff but many truck/bus drivers use it spiked with rum. Add that to crystal meth to help stay awake and the results aren't hard to imagine.

As a tea addict, I read this with much interest. I think I might be going cold turkey...
Italian coffee certainly keeps me awake when I drive over there, but it also makes me feel ropey. The indigestion thing and the headaches make it feel like you've drunk a bottle of wine rather than had a coffee.
