Hi,
My daughter has lost all the sound from the speakers front and rear on the drivers side of her 2001 reg Astra. The car was bought from a Vauxhall dealer 2 years ago,who fitted a manufactures CD player as part of the deal. She has had the connections checked at the rear of the unit and all is reported as ok so is there a problem with the CD PLAYER or is it liable to be somewhere in the wiring. Any help or ideas are welcomed.
Cheers.

most towns have a car audio specialist take the car to them and they will be able to tell you whether its an output transister or wiring thats o/c,.........they will take the unit out of the car for you as well,so you wont damage anything.

Sure its nothing as simple as balance control incorrectly set,Just a thought

For info, unless the balance / fader settings are electronic, the balance control is set by pulling gently on the volume knob and turning in the appropriate direction for left / right speakers. There should be a slight resistance felt when bang in the middle.

My post was incorrect anyway, sorry, but agree with oldman..best get the experts to look

How did you figure that out Steve? It's quite easy to accidentally adjust the balance via the way I mentioned above. It's the first place I would start looking.

I`ve had a rethink on this, for one the garage did not really check much ie only the connections to rear of CD player, what they should have done is check the speakers and wiring(on front the wiring will go through the A pillar)usually on a multi connector plug. its possible for speaker wires to break and short which might prevent rear from working as well..just a possible-but is unusual for output stage to blow on modern players

It may be as simple as the fuse having blown for that channel. This could have been caused by a short so that needs checking, get ICE specialist to do it.

Incorrectly I had assumed she had checked this. The volume control on her astra CD player has a sprung volume control which as you say needs gently pulling out to adjust the balance and pops back on releasing.
Kind Regards

Thanks Steve you were dead righ t!. In my wisdom I assumed that she had looked at that but its the sort that is sprung and not the type that you need to push back in after adjustment. It just proves that you need to go back to basics and check the easy things. In future I will assume nought!.
Kind Regards

Your welcome, thanks for the feedback,For some unknown reason DD`s post had me thinking it may have been something else-as you had mentioned it had been looked at already-which I would have thought they would have checked.
Nice to hear its ok
