Draper expert digital fault code reader - tomboy
Hi all, i'm thinking of buying one of these readers to read the codes and reset the lights on my Vauxhall astra club 2002
52 reg.
It say's it's for use on vehicles with OBD compliant engines.
Can someone tell me what OBD stands for and will i be able to use it on my car.Has anyone used one and are they any good.
The Draper part No is 11972-79143.

Thanks in advance.

If the Car is OBD compliant and the reader is also there should be no problem, be aware that there is also OBD2 / OBD II.

OBD (On-Board Diagnostics) was the original US standard. A revised standard OBD2 (or OBD II) came in for the US in '96.

EOBD (European On-Board Diagnostics) is our implementation of OBD2 and is compulsory for petrols from '01-on and diesels from '04-on.

Some cars, pre 01/04, specifically Vauxhalls, do have an EOBD socket but they're not EOBD compliant - their software prevents cheap EOBD/OBD2 readers from working although trade type reader costing several £000s can read these fault codes.

Vauxhall dealers use Tech2 which can read and reset fault codes from engine management, auto gearbox, airbags and ABS processors but charge, typically £50 a time, to read or reset codes.
