The edges of both passenger and driver seats are a bit tatty but I'm unable to find anywhere that could replace the cloth with an exact copy.
A local retailer said £100 to replace parts of the seats with a *similar* cloth.
Anybody have any tips or ideas?

Have you considered getting a pair of (matching) replacement seats from a breakers? Probably as cheap as new cloth and even if you got a match it would probably still look 'too new'.
Remember you could go online and contact various breakers across the country - better chance of getting the right cloth.

ask around on owners clubs for you particular brand, im into vw's and the favourite trimmers often get original cloth or keep it back when someone upgrades to leather

Car? Trim Level (GL, LX)?
If it was made in the UK, then you may have a chance to harrass the manufacturer (Johnson Controls, Lear, Intier, Faurecia, Ikeda Hoover.......)
