Passat Service - Wally Zebon
My 2001 Passat is telling me it needs a service. Its done 55K miles.
If I did it myself, what would be involved?

Its a 1.8T Sport

Read the service manual? Usualy itemises the main points.
Good luck. I'd search for an independent VW garage first if I were you.
My Passat is booked in at a main dealer for the 80000 mile (fixed interval) service next week, including brake fluid change at £320.
Pass the credit card.
Have spotted the independent Chesterfield garage recommendation but too late for this time.

You might have a problem resetting the service indicator, but there are items available on EBay which can do it.

haynes will tell you what to do and what you need, GSF will sell you original/OEM parts, if you ask for top quality when ordering. Some of those engines (maybe not in the passat tho) are not that easy to do the cambelt on, as an engine mount now runs through the middle of it. If you do the cambelt it's worth changing the water pump for one with a metal impeller at the same time, it's not much extra work and you'll have to do the whole lot again if your original plastic water pump fails. GSF can help you with a metal impeller water pump. With those (an all VW) engines it's well worth sticking with good quality oil, especially considering the turbo.

I suppose I should have read the service book first, but I'll go and get it now.

Thanks for the info
