Friend of mine was rear ended in his R reg Frontera the other day. Took to approved repairer and ws given...a brand new, top of the range VW Touerag. Beats a corsa anyday.

I was given a Micra..I parked it half a mile away from home.

I had a Punto once, it refused to go into fifth gear. Otherwise not a bad little car, quite well built as well.

I have my Saab TiD serviced at a independant Saab specialist. Theyre real enthusiasts; cheaper and much better to deal with than a main dealer.
First time I took it in I was given a 225bhp 9000 Aero as a courtesy car, I really didnt want get mine back at the end of the day!

Almost the same subject!
I took my BMW K75 in for service at Rainbow. They were going to lend me an old RT but said it was booked out.
Suddenly there was I with an almost new R1150RS, around £10K new IIRC. Found a few longer ways to and from work.
Magic worked and I did buy a nice R1150R from them a couple of years later.

I wasna fu but just had plenty.

I had a Mercedes C-Class as a courtesy car once, a C180.
I've never driven a more gutless car.

That's build quality for you...:-)
Also why you do need the larger engines.

It that by way of some kind of arrangement with a 3rd party claims handler - ie replacing his own 4x4 with another? I can't envisage any way a repairer would hand over a Touareg even if the repair is only going to take a few days.

I was given an A6. If it wasn't for the rev counter I would never have known it was a diesel.

Took a mate out in one of these once (2.5-litre diesel) and he was amazed when I pointed out the computer readout was showing 80mpg at an indicated 80mph.

I think anyone that drives an A6 would be pretty amazed by that too. They're not particularly economical cars.
My old 406 would show 999MPG given a long enough downhill run (in gear, so the fuel shuts off).

I really don't make it up as I go along. It is as I've stated.
The secret is to get a vehicle up to the desired speed and then ease back on the throttle just enough to maintain that speed.
I can get my Bora to registered 199mpg (the maximum) by doing that but, if you take your foot off the throttle, the fuel supply is cut off and it displays a line of ---

This is, of course, at slowish speeds and in fifth gear.

I was given a Seicento (orange, to make it worse!)
Had to return it as not enough room to drive it - my legs were too long and was getting excruciating pain trying to drive. Couldn't get an alternative car - maybe I should have sent the insurers my osteopath's bill..

Out of interest - what didn't you like about it?

>>Bill Payer-
If you took away the toys from the x5 (tv, satnav etc) it was a very average car, it wasn't a 4x4. it was also quite small inside. The turning circle was poor, making parking slightly embarrassing!! Also no handles to help the wife get on board (shes only 5'3, bless her!!)
Still, I'm known at work for having no taste in cars, especially as I drive a tank/tractor/skip (all phrases used to describe the terracan....

Thanks. I just always thought it would a perfect all-round (ie able to fulfil lots of functions) vehicle.

I wish! When Polo was rear-ended I got a Micra 1.2. Not bad, considering I was quite expecting a Seicento or Matiz. Not a bad little car, quite roomy (mind you it was massive) well built and nippy. Little else to recommend. It was otherwise noisy and had poor ride quality. So poor, the (the comparatively aged) Polo won hands down in these areas. Being used to a 4 speed 'box, I got over enthusiastic coming across the gate from 2nd to 4th and thus accidentally tried to engage reverse at 40! Thankfully it wasn't mine.

Ha ha. Once left my Astra estate in to get new shocks fitted. When I came back to collect it on a Friday evening it was gone. No record of anyone having taken it and to all intents stolen. MD was summoned and he went ballastic and when in the middle of the ensuing row with his staff I asked how I was getting home he reached into his pocket and threw me the keys of his car. I was more than a little surprised to go home in a week old BMW 740i. Turned out of the sales staff 'borrowed' it for the weekend to move some stuff. His days in car sales were limited. I went through a tank of petrol and collected my car again on Monday. Still use the same garage years later.

When my loacl independent garadge mend the trooper they are kind enough to lend me the comercial disco they use as a recovery tow / runaround. Nothing worse than geting a courtesy car that is inepropriate.

Last year a colleague took his M reg Carina diesel to the Toyota main dealer for a service. He had booked a courtesy car, but a previous customer had written it off, so the sales manager lent him his Lexus SC430 for the day!
Colleague still defected to Honda this year though.
