Cigarette lighter not working - mk3 golf - sony
The cigarette lighter doesn?t work, I was trying to charge my phone, I had never tried it before.

Any suggestions as to what I can check?

wriggle your plug around in the socket, if its been used as a fag lighter they get cruddy and dont make contact.

failing that its a fuse or the socket

You haven't said what car it is.

If it's a Golf or Octavia or similar, the cigarette lighter is between the front seats. If you switch off the rear electric windows, the cigarette lighter is also switched off.

Or of course your phone charger may be u/s. Have you tried it in another car?

My cig lighter in the car wasntt working so I decided to be a stupid git and opened my haynes manual, and took fuse 22 (10a) out. Now the central locking is dead, and the time on the speedo goes back to 0 as soon as I put the ignition on. Whats happened?? Please I could cry!!!!!!!!

At a guess, that's the fuse that powers those too. Not uncommon - I think my radio fuse powers the courtesy light and central locking.

Have you tried replacing the fuse? I suspect all will be well when you do.

Having done that,if it still does not work,there may be a duff fuse in the plug for the phone charger.
