Any idea how much i would be looking at for a new steering rack on a 2000 x reg Clio?
At MOT last month, an advisory was given "Slight play in the steering rack"
Its done 77k so far, and the mechanic said it could always have play or gradually get worse.
Whats more likely?

If it makes any difference its a 1.6 RSi 16v

Some Clios from 2000- have electric power racks - don't know how much, but not cheap I suspect!
If it is a standard hydraulic rack then expect to pay £150-200 for a rebuilt rack from a factors, plus exchange surcharge.
Are you sure the U/J on the column is OK? These often fail on Renaults.

U/J? I'm only going on what the MOT said to be honest, my technical knowledge is limited!
Its due a service in 2k miles so probably best time to find out i guess.
How long does a rack take to remove/replace?

Er, no. Not at all cheap. BBA Reman do them for about £600 so that gives you a clue how much a new one would be.

How would I know if it has an electric rack?

Have a look under the bonnet. If it's hydraulic then there will be a fluid reservoir somewhere. Hydraulic systems make a distinctive noise as well
Electric ones (as on my Megane) are eerily silent.
