Maybe the through bit was finished but the A30 Staines south alongside it was still not sorted due to a lane restriction etc.

Am I being thick, what is a "high occupancy lane"?

A lane for cars with more than n occupants - where n varies but is usually 1 or 2.

"Am I being thick, what is a "high occupancy lane"?"
Easy, it is the lane that is most commonly fully occupied whilst the others are almost empty. i.e. the outside lane of the motorway. :)

Thanks No FM2R, brain is firmly back in gear now! How is this lane policed? I bet the manikin shops in the area will get busy!

In California it was policed by both cameras and patrol cars.
In this country where we do not believe that you need police on the streets, we believe that they're better used doing admin in the station, I suppose we'd rely on cameras.
On which subject, why does the government think I'm stupid ? They tell me that there is no problem because there are more police now than there have ever been. Don't they think I'm going to question, therefore, why you never see any ? Perhaps they think I won't question what the extra work they are doing is, and what the value of that admin actually is ?
I don't mind the government lying to me. In fact its a warm, familiar and comfortable feeling. But why do they insist on treating me as if I am stupid ?

Can't agree. Round whjere I live I see more police walking the beat now than I have ever done - I saw two lots over this weekend. The last break in I had to attend to as part of my job was attended to by two police who were walking the beat in the area. No comfy patrol car for those two.
As for the HOL it will be policed like other traffic offences which require a person to do the job (seatbelt wearing, mobile phone use etc etc) - it will be policed for a few months then nothing, then a crackdown, then nothing, then a crackdown - see the pattern?

>>> But why do they insist on treating me as if I am stupid <<<
Because HJ readers are the minority. The Govt doesn't go far wrong assuming the rest of the public is pretty dense. Give them Eastenders and chips and they couldn't care less.

They don't care about you -- only the 99%. In Soviet Russia the people who believed footwear production stats.

In the States although as someone else has said, it is policed by cameras etc, I understand that a lot of people still use lifelike dummies in the passenger seat to get around the problem of these multiple occupancy lanes..

There was talk of adding extra lanes to the whole of the M25,Though really cannot understand how surrounding A/B roads will be able to cope and suspect it will all end up in gridlock as per usual.
And as has been mentioned, where are all the so called extra police that we are told we have enough of to police M25
