Leather seats and biro - Marc
Afternoon, anyone got any tips for removing ballpoint pen marks from leather seats? I've tried neat washing up liquid and turps so far but the marks are still there.

Thanks

Methylated spirits is well known and good at removing biro marks from clothes so it may work on leather seats (at your own risk though...)

Good idea - I'll have to get some of that, if I wipe it off quickly it shouldn't do too much damage

As perhaps a few others with little ones may attest, baby wipes are good at getting out virtually anything from anything. Little miss lordy put biro on our leather couch not two days ago, a baby wipe removed all traces instantly. Baby wipes have magical powers, i use them on my white shirts when the inevitable is spilled at work.

Marc, if you do a search here, you may find this has been discussed before. Reason being I also asked the question and the solution that worked for me was sparaying hairspray on it and very quickly wiping it.

I did this on my leather couch and it worked great ALTHOUGH. at first glance it seemed to have lifted some of the colour, however looking at it as I write, I cannot find any mark on the couch.

If you do use hairsparay, I would suggest you cover as little area as possible, don't know if spraying a cotton bud and using that would be enough? As soon as you get the ink out, wipe the leather with a damp cloth.

Meths, denatured alcohol or surgical spirit should do the job, as they dissolve the glycerine part of the biro ink.

I think toothpaste has been previously mentioned, as well as hairspray also working.

Aftershave on a Q tip. Took out black biro off a new tan leather chair. Did lift a faint ammount of colour but I had been trying with meths, white spirit etc before looking for tips on tinternet. Try typing leather and biro into your Search Engine for some tips. Even tells you which aftershave is best!

Baby wipes thirded - full of yucky chemicals carefully blended to produce a totally benign, sweet smelling (once you get over the nappy association - anyone with kids will know what I mean), miracle clean-all. I should know - I used to make them for a leading brand!

It's worth keeping some of these baby wipes in the car boot. They are good at cleaning bird droppings off the paintwork. Modern water based paints seem less tolerant of the acid.
