i have a friend who has been told the woozing of her gearbox is the bearings i was just woundering if that is true and if so wouldnt it be easyer to change the hole gearbox as other problems may happen whilst haveing the bearings changed

It is impossible to say whether it is true without hearing it.
Generally it is best to replace the whole gearbox with a reconditioned one from a reputable source.

Depends how old this Wagon is, if its a Wagon R. They were made in Hungary/Japan with Suzuki engine/transmission. But now they use Opel engine/transmission.
One whines more than the other.

Which one whines more than the other please?

the noisiest one i think :)
have the box to an established gearbox reconditioner the country is full of wanabe pressure hose "reconditioners" the real man will know what needs changing...........good luck

Not sure if its the same gearbox, but I've got a 1996 Suzuki Swift 993cc (three cylinder thing) which is Hungarian built and the gearbox pipes away happily - its done 120k now and been whining for most of that, apparently (known previous owners.
Don't know whether the GM box whines.
Mine whines in all gears, power on or power off - but not when on a neutral throtle ie 'cruising'. The whine (or perhaps more a 'zizz' isn't bad enough to be more than mildly worrying, but as I say the former owners say its been like that a very long time without getting much worse. I would let it whine until it goes whine/bang!

Even Haynes says"if it whines and works, leave it alone".

Did they mention what bearings needed changing, your friend should have been told.If its diff whine and not too loud would leave it.How many miles it done?
