£32,000 Lotus Exige wrecked - Dynamic Dave

A company director took his £32,000 sports car to be cleaned - and it quickly turned into a crumpled heap.

The car was being spruced up for a buyer, but the sale had now fallen through, he said.

Dave, how many times have you pointed out a new thread which covers something already being discussed elsewhere?
Have you seen the entries in the Another 'Caring Sharing' Honda dealer thread?

oops :-)

Haven't read this thread but, in fairness, I must point out the car had only been sent for valeting and it's a Lotus, not a Honda.

Oops indeed. Sorry SJB. Somehow I missed your post in that thread. Didn't intend stealing your thunder.

This story was in the Daily Mail yesterday or the day before - it's very similar to the saga of the owner of a Honda NSX who took his car to a garage in Formby for routine attention a few years ago....:-)

Equally embarrassing and upsetting for all concerned, but probably worse in this case as the Lotus owner had already agreed a £32,000 sale and the reason it was to undergo a thorough valet.

If the owner has described the car as his 'pride and joy' and his 'baby', why was he selling it anyway?
Not that it makes any difference.

32,000 reasons!

Well we don't have the full facts of the story but on the surface of it, it appears outrageous. I can think of no reason why the car even needed to be driven if it was being cleaned.
Some years ago I used to live on a road where there was a main dealer at the end. We used to regularly see cars (particularly the sporty ones) getting thrashed by young mechanics taking them out on a 'test drive'.
No respect for other peoples' property.

Last time I had my car serviced, when I got it back it had done 25 extra miles. Which I thought was a bit excessive, but they did say they were trying to diagnose a rattle on the rear suspension. I generally trust them, but it makes you wonder; who was driving it, where did they go, did they thrash it??

25 miles thats bad i think.
at least my local ford only done five mile.
mind you it was only in to have the a lock repaired?

Indeed. I would have asked the question:

"You are allegedly a trained mechanic. Why did it take you 25 miles to diagnose a fault with my car's suspension?"

I know of garages that use customers' vehicles to pick up spare parts or undertake any other tasks.

It's a disgraceful abuse of trust of others' property.

Mods: You may like to combine two threads.

I posted the same link to the crashed Exige article yesterday, but put it in the "Caring sharing" thread as it was in the same vein. See www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?f=2&t=36...9

SJB, it was spotted ealier in this thread.

However, this thread points to a Lotus, whereas the other thread points towards a Honda ;o)

No worries; I realise the other thread was "Honda" but it was also "look what happens when you trust a third party with your car".

Frankly I'd already set off down the road when I noticed. I was happy with the rest of the service and wanted to get home, so couldnt be bothered to go back and moan. I will watch it next time though...
