>>About one in six British HGV drivers suffers from a form of a sleep disorder requiring medical help, a study says.
This has been discussed on a truck forum, the programme makers posted on it to try and get some help, they got none as it was obvious that it was just going to be an attack on Drivers.
Not sure how they work out their figures but it actually affects about 4% of the population, which does not make it one in six as they suggest. As the saying goes there are "Lies, Damn Lies and Statistics".
Will wait till I watch the whole programme before I get fully on my soap box!!!!

I imagine that as the condition affects "1-4% of the population but most of these are middle aged men" then any profession with higher than average proportion of middle aged men (such as HGV drivers) has the potential for more of its members to suffer from the condition.

An Uncle of mine (a truckdriver) suffered quite badly with sleep apnea, but as far as I am aware never fell asleep at the wheel. Eventually surgery on his throat cured it (and stopped him snoring), but his HGV licence was taken away when he failed his over 50s medical.
