Recently in London Hired a renault scenic tdi1.9, nice engine, power, economy and torque, easy to obtain 45mpg. However poor interior erognomics, no arm rest, electric window switches placed too forward as well electric miror switches, column stalk design confusing as well electronic dashboard.
Oh and long term will it be reiable , one door failed to open properly?
Over to you guys...

Being pedantic, it would have been a dCi...
I agree with your comments on the 1.9 engine, it really is a nice unit. Your other comments are personal opinion however, I am sure other people may find the ergonomics fine for them. I drove one as a hire car in France a while back and apart from the electric handbrake, I really liked it. Even the handbrake was me not being used to it, with familiarisation I would probably have liked it.
My experience of Renaults is that since 2003 there has been a huge improvement in fit and finish; and also component quality. With any car there will be the possibility of something going wrong. Remember that hire cars get a pretty good caning.

Mmm lets take these one by one.
Assuming its the new shape Scenic I agree, engine is great. If old shape, its a dog.
Ergonomics - my model has an armrest so obviously depends on spec. Electric window switches are on door just where your hand can reach them perfectly.
Electric mirrors - yes I agree you need to move your hand to reach them but I did this the day I got the car and havent had to touch them since,
Column stalk design - indicators on left, wipers on right. That is confusing how?
Don't know if your mention of electronic dashboard is a complaint or observation?
Think the issue here is that with any car, if you are just hiring it for a few days then it will feel starange compared to whatever you normally drive.

The DTi's were not so good the the last old shape 105 DCi's were OK.

Cheddar, having owned both I must disagree. the old rtdt was great with loads of torque, speed and economy. I liked it so much I got the new super dci 105 that had just been developed. Hated it from the moment I got it till the day I part-exd it. Poor economy, absolutely no grunt at all and very poor in-gear acceleration.

"Poor economy, absolutely no grunt at all and very poor in-gear acceleration."
I suspect there was something wrong with it, these engines go like the clappers.

Xileno, at the time I had the dci 105, I had it checked out at several dealerships and all said it was fine. They all also commented that they had received many complaints about this.
Not sure if this is the same 105 that is in some new Meganes now?

The 106 dCi is the 1.5, same as mine but tuned to give 6 more horses. All the 1.9's give upwards of 120.
