I understand the last Rover produced was a 75 and that's now at the Gaydon museum.

However a quick look at this site shows that there were several others behind it on the line!

May be the other Rovers were never finished the whole production process but remained incomplete and therefore the Gaydom Museum is the last Rover 75 made.

I know, they say it's the last one to be completed. The point of the post is to show some interesting pictures of how the Rover factory looks now

For some reason I am extremely taken by that site. There's something quite cool about a bunch of people visiting stuff just for the sake of visiting it - not vandalising, squatting, or nicking, just seeing.

V. cool.

Why are there CityRovers in the pictures? They certainly weren't made at Longbridge!
The last Rover - Blue {P}
Probably ones that arrived broken and needed mending...

Far as I know they were imported "almost complete" but were finished off in Longbridge - ie, they had different bumpers, bodykit etc fitted to them, and Rover badges of course.

I wondered why the indicators on those Cityrovers were orange.

I thought it was a pool of oil behind one in the photo, but I'm prepared to admit it might just be a dark puddle of water...

INTERESTING!!!

The CityRover in the picture has the reg number Y466 WRH (you can see by zooming into the pic and altering the white balance and gamme using photo editor).

According to DVLA records, that number was registered on 24th May 2001, it changed owner on 31 May 2002, it has 1 previous owner and is a "Heavy Oil" fuel type (i.e. diesel).

I didn't think the City Rover came out until quite a bit later than this? Also I didn't think they did a Diesel?

Also the DVLA record doesn't have anything in the Manufacturer or Model of the car, so it was registered without these values. Very strange!

I suspect therefore, that this was some sort of development model bought into the UK for Rover to play with?

That would also explain why it's got orange indicator lenses (when the City Rover had white lenses)...

Vehicle details
Manufacturer
Model
Body type 5 DOOR HATCHBACK
Colour SILVER
Fuel type HEAVY OIL
Date manufactured 24 May 2001
Number of previous owners 1
Last owner change 31 May 2002

That is interesting. So what they've got there is actually a Tata Indica, rather than a Cityrover - ie it was brought over as a Tata Indica and registered for them to have a play with? Does that mean yer 28dayslater fellas found some development area or other? That'd explain what appears to be a 75 in the background with a side-wall but no roof. I can't believe they're built like that.

Over at austin-rover.co.uk/ , they've started compiling a list of the last cars to come out of the factory.

The last MGTF went to a private punter.

Th pictures are kind of moving arn't they, in an 'end of an era' kind of way.

quite disturbing, especially for a rover nut!

To think that all but one of my cars have come from there and now its looking like that!

Lets hope they bring it back to life one way or another :-(

It's all a bit sad.

Just goes to show the confusion at the end, they didn't know to stop making the cars so materials were still getting ordered, parts were still being assembled...
