any suggestions on where to find a good saving on the above. Prepared to travel - i've heard they can be sourced at considerable savings on Germany but don't know of any reputable companies.

Doesn't have to be a Landie: Budget upto 30k, must be diesel and have 7 seats and be a left hooker- will eventualy reside in Portugal.

Many thanks for nay help

If you are willing to try a Volvo XC90 D5 I would highly recommend Bluekens Volvo in Breda, the Netherlands. Superb to do business with; in 2003 I imported (albeit to the UK) my V70 from them and they worked hard to strike a deal acceptable to both parties as well as organize all the export paperwork. A thoroughly enjoyable way to spend a pile of dosh! My father also purchased his S80 from Bluekens Breda (which is how I learned of them) and his experience was equally as good.

Their contact mail address is pw.breda@bluekens.com, with "pw" literally standing for "personal wagon", or "car" in our terms.

We flew over to collect the car with Easyjet from Stansted to Eindhoven followed by a short and easy train journey to Breda.

Just a thought; regardless of whether you choose a Landie or something else, if I could so easily buy a RHD car in a LHD country there may be no reason why you can't cost effectively do the converse and source your Portugal bound left hooker in the UK.

Is there any reason why you would not want to order the car in Portugal from a dealer there?

For the answer to "Why not?", go to europa.eu.int/comm/competition/car_sector/price_di...f

This shows that Portugal has the most expensive LRs in the Eurozone, half as much again as in Lithuania. Much of this is presumably tax on new vehicles so I imagine the plan is to import the LR as used by the time it has been driven to Portugal. Germany is also said by the EU to be one of the most expensive for base prices with Denmark being among the best.

You can easily get an LR left-hooker from a UK supplier but my experience from a quote earlier this year from a so-called specialist exporter on a 90 is that it would be cheaper to hop across to Calais and pay list price without any negotiation to a French LR dealer.

It´s only a 5 seater, but brand-new Sorento 2.5 TDs are available for ?24k at www.world-car.de. That´s in Germany BTW, near Koblenz. Just a thought.

There was a comment on a site somewhere saying that given so many Brits are doing the same as you ie buying an overseas property and wanting to get a car suitable to use at said property that the price of LHD cars in the UK has bumped up alot.

Check on Autotrader or find a specialist LHD dealer?
