oil pressure warning light - david rundle
I drive a seat arosa sdi with 3.5k on the clock, 6 months old with an intermintent oil pressure low warning light coming on the return journey from work.
The SEAT garage have been unable to find the problem eg. electric of mechanical.
Re: oil pressure warning light - steve paterson
If the original oil is still installed and the light comes on at idling speed, it could be the 'thin running in oil' causing the light to come on. In this case it isn't a problem. An oil and filter change will sort it out. If the light comes on at higher engine speeds, you do have a problem. It's usually an electrical fault with the oil pressure switch. Ask your dealer what the actual oil pressure in your engine is. This might force them to do a proper pressure test.

Steve's right - you need a proper oil pressure check especially if the light's coming on above idle. That said, on a new engine I'd be worried if it was coming on even at idle - these things switch at probably less than 10lb/square inch, so get it checked.
