Hello,
I have recently purchased a Escort (N-Reg Feb96) and have a few questions.
1) Which MK is the car? Some people told me MK5, others told me MK6?
2) Where can I get a user manual for the car? I am looking for the same manual that came with the car not a workshop manual (HAYNES). I have tried a FORD main dealer and was told they are not available anymore.
3) Also looking for a parcel shelf.. Anyone has any contacts or where I can get one from?
Many Thanks,

Marks of Escort are confusing once you get beyond about 3. However, as far as I'm aware mk5, mk6 and mk7 cars were just facelifted versions of the same car. A 1996 model is probably a mk6. Mk6 will have an oval grill and squareish headlights. Mk5 had a thin strip-like grill.
The mk7 was a heavier facelift and introduced roundish headlights and a bumper that was more like a body panel at the front.

mk3 ... 1980 to 1986
mk4 ... 1986 to 1990
mk5 ... 1990 to 1995
mk6 ... 1995 to 1997
mk7 ... 1997 to 2000
to me the best car ford did was the mk3 ! bring them back i say, and if they did, i would buy the rs1600i !! after that ford used cheap nasty metals that rots like tin ( i think thats what they used )
all these modern cars built so complex and to the average motorist looks like a can of worms under the bonnet keep it simple and see how less likely they are to break down this goes to all cars not just fords.

Give me a MK3 S1 RS Turbo anytime. As r3d dwarf said, the first 2yrs of the MK4 Escort, C-E reg they used cheap Spanish steel which rotted almost instantly coming off the production line. Ford soon sorted that problem out only to get it wrong again with the design & handling of the MK5.

I had a Mk 1 Mexico which was a dog but I loved. Later my boss had one of the first XR3i which I was enourmously impressed by - even if it was a nightmare on wet, oily roads [not aided by the fact that I suspect I was not a very good driver].
