hello everyone first post here. Its time to change the car in, have always wanted a 3 series coupe, and have 11k burning a hole. I've seen some V and W plated 328ci with about 45k on clock with the options & colour I like, or I could go for a newer 323 or 320. My questions are:
1 - am I scraping the barrel for a 328 ci / risking buying a problem car at this price?
2 - apart from knocks from the front / rear suspension, what are any other potential problems to look for?

Should I have posted in Technical Matters?
As your question is asking for vehicle-related feedback, you're in the right place.
As mentioned in the forum index,
www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/index.htm
Tech matters is more for "Help and advice on all aspects of maintaining, repairing & servicing your vehicle."
whereas Discussion, apart from "A place to discuss things with some connection to motoring." is also for "user roadtests and vehicle-related feedback."

This isnt always as fast moving as some forums, esp at a weekend.
I'll kick off with the cooling system. Lots of bm's seem to have overheating issues. Make sure that it gets a coolant change. look for any sign that it has overheated, brown stains under the bonnet anywhere, check oil and water for mixing, etc.
suspension arms/bushes ?
have you asked on bmwland ?
