Nice to see someone getting one up on local councils.

And a related story:

The photo is taken in Tunbridge Wells. When the Council took over control of parking it was the only part of the organisation to pay for itself.

Parking is still awful in the town

So whats confusing to the Tunbridge Wells local being ticketed in the photo about double yellow lines?

As I didn't grow up and pass my test in TW, I don't know, but that seems to be how most of my fellow residents park.

Maybe the double yellow lines weren't legal? To be correct they must (obviously!) be double lines and be terminated by a bar at each end, crossing the ends of the 2 yellow lines at rt angles to the pavement. If they aren't like this they aren't legal and a ticket issued for parking on them is not enforceable or is grounds for appeal.

-Three quarters of those who had been fined in the last year said they felt it was unfair, with four in ten citing "confusing signs".

I'm sorry AS but I still don't see what can be confusing for Tunbridge Wells or any driver about parking on nationally recognised , written up in the Highway Code double yellows even if the council have not applied that little bit of paint at the end.Yes I know one blokein Thirsk got away with it once.

If you are a law abiding person you do not park on double yellow lines - IMO if Mr Tunbridge Wells or anyone else finds it too difficult to understand he should not be in charge of a vehicle.

The gist of the thread is the take over by councils of parking regulations with or without statutory powers ( see Chrisopher Booker on the problems that Sunderland find themselves in) and the introduction of 'local rules' as confusing plates on poles miles away as discussed in previous threads.

Don't be ridiculous ! That's a LAndcruiser (perhaps a 4-Runner) therefore the man is clearly entirely within his rights to park in that manner - it always works for me.

Seems to work for virtually anybody who is resident in the town as well though.

On Saturday a BMW parked on the pavement opposite my house to avoid the double yellows. When I say 'on the pavement' I mean all 4 wheels and leaving no space whatsoever for pedestrians.

When I first started working in the town my boss (originally from somewhere up north) constantly commented how TW drivers were the most selfish and lazy in the country. Certainly they park anywhere they like and pay very little attention to anyone else around.

As you can tell, since I have been here I have taken the 'disgusted' mantle to heart...

Pointless parking on the pavement - restrictions run from the edge of the carriageway - including the pavement - to the mid line of the road. Right up to property boundaries, as I understand it.
