Good topical subject for us M5 users in the southwest.
Having endured weeks of lane closures, roadworks etc etc to put a crawler lane in what do I fine this morning? Truck in lane 1, being slowly overtaken by a truck in lane 2, being overtaken by another truck in lane 3. Lane 4 thankfully was free as they were all <50mph.
What a waste of time and money - yet when we were "consulted" many yrs ago as local residents, the suggestion it would be abused was poo-poo'd.....
No doubt the one they are now building further south will go the very same way.
Don't like to say I told 'em, but I did :-)
And it's our collective money that paid for it all :-(

<< Truckin lane 1, being slowly overtaken by a truck in lane 2, being overtaken by another truck in lane 3. Lane 4 thankfully was free as they were all <50mph.
So what was the problem? The slowest truck was in the crawler lane. The other two trucks were entitled to overtake.
<< Lane 4 thankfully was free ........
Lane 4 will always be free ~ trucks (over a certain weight) are forbidden to use the outer lane.

With the analogy presented you could get an eight-lane motorway where seven lanes are occupied by artics all going 0.5 mph faster than each other with only lane 8 clear for cars and large vans.
What a joke.
Maybe on a 4 and more lane motorway, the two outer lanes should be lorry free.

"So what was the problem?"
...the simple fact that still only one lane clear for all the cars..... we had that when we had three lanes!!!! Or are you saying that is sensible use of a four lane highway?
