Argh! I'm going to be driving from Rochdale to Devon on Christmas Eve (or the day before) this year. I think I'd better set off now!

Thanks for that, I passed this area on the weekend and saw loads of preparation work. I frequently drive this part of the M5 so if this region looks bad (summer school holidays) I often duck down the M32 from the M4 and take my chances in Bristol city centre (learnt to drive there so know lots of alternate routs) out of peak rush hours.

Ahhh yes, part of my daily grind up the M5.
If it's anything like the bridge it will take n times longer (chose a number) cost x times more than planned and they'll dig it up to repair it within 12 months - I kid you not.
No sooner did we lose the contraflow + 50's then we get another set at the M4 interchange plus the hill clmbing towards Clevedon.
Gloucester will be next, the tarmac is breaking up very badly along there.

Went through this area of the M5 twice yesterday, cones are still lined up at the sides of the carriageway, the only activity were several teams installing cameras to monitor the 40mph speed limit.
Why after over 20 years of 50mph for Mway roadworks are they now nearly always 40mph?
