I have no connection with Lidl but I see they are doing some car accessory offers starting tomorrow.

I think the car cover looks good value but not sure about it being held on the car by "elasticated edging".

Does anyone have experience of this - does it hold or would the wind just get underneath and lift it off?

Some look very good but, to be honest, I'd have my doubts about actually using a £4.99 or even £9.99 hydraulic car jack, especially as the car polisher is £14.99...:-))

The prices look fairly keen, though if any of you are off to the USA anytime soon, have a look a your local Walmart.

These guys know how to do car accessories, and DIY!

The car jacks are spot I bought one in Germany for the lad to change his discs and pads no problems

car jack seems too good to be true, but as always with any jack its only for lifting the car to change a wheel and not working underneath it..for a tenner is worth chucking in the boot

I imagine it's because of bulk buying. Maybe more trolley jacks get sold than car polishers, hence why they're cheaper.

The only downside of this item(in my opinion) is I'm going to have to get up early 2moro to get it...why do lidl only have small amounts of their latest offers

I note that some offers are regional.
Also WD40 OIL?
Lidl car offers start tomorrow - Stuartli
Why not? It's a lubricant as well as a water dispellant.

Dictionary 'oil' = soluble in organic solvents, but not in oil.

Isn't that the whole point of WD40....? (Which stands for Water Displacement 40th attempt at getting it right.)

Is it a lubricant? Well, only in so far as any liquid is a lubricant (ask any fisherman whether he uses his saliva to lubricate knots tied in fishing nylon).

It's more of a solvent, really. If you free off a stuck lock with it, then you have to put some 3-in-1 in afterwards.

Just as an aside, last week it was fireworks at Lidl, and the week before it was horse blankets* but i don't think there was much demand for them near me (Tower Bridge!)

I bought a trolley jack in either Lidl or Aldi in Germany earlier this year, it was around the same price.

I had a puncture on the way back to the ferry (with about 30 mins to spare) and that, and the extending wheel nut wrench, meant I still caught the ferry...

I don't keep the jack in my boot though.

If you believe that, put some on your wife's favourite mirror when she goes away on holiday. Then hear her scream when she comes back a week later to find there's still a thin film of oil on her beloved reflection.

Yes, there are solvents in it. There is also oil in it.

If I'm being obtuse here, I promise it's not deliberate, what does the following mean:
Dictionary 'oil' = soluble in organic solvents, but not in oil.

oil means not soluble in oil? How can a dictionary use a word in the definition of itself anyway?
Lidl car offers start tomorrow - Mapmaker
Silly me, sorry. soluble in organic solvents but not in WATER of course.

If you live in the Swindon area, then don't bother going to LIDL in Chapel Street as it's shut for refurbishment from today until Wed. Opens again on Thurs 3rd of Nov.

Not sure about the atlas. Lots of shops now have these carboard stands with piles of 2006 UK road atlas for £1.99 (always marked at £6.99 to appear good value-why do they alwasy do that!?).

Went in to Lidl today but just as I was waiting to pay for the car cover, I realised that it could well be a pain in the neck for the Scenic as it has one of these stupid semi-flexy aerials at the rear of the roof that does not tilt down flat like conventional aerials. So I would need to unscrew it every time or run the risk of puncturing the cover.

Unless of course I deleiberately made a hole with a narrow circumference for the aerial to feed through....

Re the trolley jack, I like the idea of one of these but without trying to sound totally stupid, how do you know where to put it under the car to jack it up??

Conventional car jack goes into the point on the sill that the wee arrow points to!!

You don't want to be using the trolley jack on the scissor-jack point. It tends to crush the jacking point. Apparently. ::whistles nonchalantly whilst shuffling in front of car to hide crushed jacking point::

Some owner manuals list the workshop jacking points, others don't. If not shown in the Renault book, ask your dealer. Normally there are some fairly clear points on the underside, usually circular raised areas to the rear of the front wheelarch and forward of the rear wheelarch and set about 12" in from the sill.

Does your L200 have a hydraulic jack that goes under the axel just like a Hilux does? I thought that was Reeeeeaaaally cool the first time I discovered this tiny little jack!

>axel

'Cos of course I was talking about when your car does a jump from the forward outside edge of one skate to the backward outside edge of the other, with one and a half turns in the air...

Axle.

Yup, the L200 has a teeny bottle jack that works as you describe. The Alfa has the crushed jacking points.

Or in my case the seam underneath the cill had been crushed -prior to me owning the vehicle.
So a newer vehicle arrives on my drive and soon after I was attacking it with a hammer. That confused the neighbours.

The car polisher is available in my local B&Q for £7.49.

Locate where the jacking points are for the manufacturers jack, and then look under the car behind the sill where the standard jack locates. You should see a place for where to put a trolley jack. It will be a largish plate with a hole in the middle. I was going to suggest looking in the manual, but just looking at the on-line ones on the Vaux website, it only shows the manufacturers jackin points.

yes manual supplied with car is same, however will give under the car a further look..thanks.

Windscreen wipers £1.50 for a pair... Front mats £5 (with cut off bits all over them to make them fit your car!)

Thanks to the original posters for pointing out these offers.

Went to my local Lidl at 1300 and lo and behold all the fire extinguishers had gone, did manage to get one of the trolley jacks though, seems good value.

I've just noticed that throughout this thread I've made reference to a trolley jack, whereas in fact LIDL's offer is for a hydraulic bottle jack. D'oh.

They're doing both types DD, you're not going mad!
