Does anyone know if there is going to be a GB version of AutoRoute 2006?

I think that , like the last few years, GB will not get its own version but detailed cover will be available in the 'Europe' version.

The problem is, as I see it, is that the software defaults to the most unlikely place. No, that is not an exagerration.
e.g. I have just typed in a route from Esher (Surrey) to Penrith (Cumbria) - AutoRoute suggests that I would like to go to Penrith in New South Wales, Australia (it's a few miles West of Sydney) now the first few times this happens it can be mildly amusing, but after a while it is just irritating.
Why does the software not default to the nearest place of that name?

Oops, or exaggeration even!

Amazon show the usual Europe version only - due 28/10/05

My Autoroute version (2000) brings up a full list of similarly named towns and villages in the UK - you have to select the correct one before continuing.
Perhaps you have not chosen the correct destination or start point?

Instead of giving M$ even more money, I use www.multimap.com. I often have to find places with only a postcode to go on. I find their maps are more up to date than Autoroute.
|
Try Google Local:
maps.google.com/maps?q=from%3A+esher+to%3A+penrith...n
(I just entered the words "esher" and "penrith" and it gave the correct places!) It even gives a detailed map of the destination on clicking the marker.
I have always been a fan of Autoroute, but find online mapping just as easy these days! (I also use Mapquest at times)

Only problem with Google maps is that it doesn't give junction numbers on motorways. You also can't specify "via" unless you do the route planning twice.

As a KT10 resident I tried out your entry as I use the route south frequently.
The directions need to be studied or else use the zoom in to understand the detail.
Instruction 5 says -Bear left into the A3 entry ramp....
The detail map shows that that it means do NOT bear 1st left onto the A3 but go round the roundabout and the bear left on the the A3 South.
Otherwise overall I think it is a useful source to add to my links in my mapping file.

Surprising quote from the UKMotorHomes review mentioned above:
"....Dell L400 notebook (P3 700Mhz) running XP Professional. We have used it extensively when travelling as it is small, having a 12" screen, and sits nicely on our A Class dashboard."
Hope I'm not driving near that person!
