The courtesy lights do not come on when you open the doors or boot - neither the bulb or the fuse have blown - any thoughts on how to get it responding?

Are you sure it's not the bulb? Have you tested it with a multimeter? I had an interior bulb go but visually the filament was intact.

i do not think it is the bulb since when you move the switch in the overhead console to the on position with the doors closed it works (as long as the ignition is on) when you have it to only come on when a door opens neither the front or back comes on.

The interior light should be able to be switched on without the ignition needing to be on. You're not confusing any map reading lights for the interior light are you? On some cars the ignition needs to be on for them to work.

No it is the courtesy light at both fron at bacjk which have a three position switch for on, off and on with doors open position - it is this last position taht they do not respond.
