Has anyone got one of these? I've been talked into finding a good reliable, cheap, smallish estate for someone. I've seen a 1997 'R' reg for sale (trader) for £1995.
Attractions are it's immaculate, only done 60K and has the Honda engine.
I'm hoping to beat the price down to £1750. Afterall, no-one seems to want Rovers now they've gone under.
But is this model any good?
Thanks

Sounds like about £1000 overpriced to me.
What about a citroen zx estate, for £2k you should be able to pick up a xsara estate.
Otherwise a Peugeot 306 estate would fit the bill nicely.

Sounds far too expensive to me. IIRC the tourer was based on the *old* rover 400 - not the one that came out in the mid 90s.
|
It was definately based on the old one.
I think your friend would hate you forever if you bought that car for that much money!!!

You'd be able to get a 306 with the 1.9 turbo (with a few more miles, but able to take it) for that price.
Does the Rover come with a free flat cap (with elasticated sides), a beige shower jacket, pale brown check trousers, tan stretchy shoes and a map of Eastbourne's bowls clubs? It should, all the ones round here do.

Parkers online (www.parkers.co.uk) price quote: Independent Dealer £1035 for 97P 1.6SLi Tourer

Thanks to all. Well it seems it's overpriced despite being immaculate. I might give the dealer a call, see if they will accept a more realistic amount.
As for the car itself, I expect it's a bit dull and dreary but compared to my friends knackered old Nissan it will be like a dream. Especially as I expect I will be giving it to them.

We have one!
It's the 1.6 K-series type. 40k and had head gasket replaced quite early on (~10k) under warranty, but no problems with HGF since.
Only problem is vibration coming through the steering wheel when pulling away at low revs (~1000rpm). Lessened slightly by new clutch, and more so by new engine mount between back of engine and chassis. Other than that has been great. Bodywork in excellent nick consider it's left out in all weathers, certainly better than the 3 year old 25 I saw a few months back!

Tourer, with Honda unit auto is not as bad as K series.but not worth £1750,however good. Those that like them may well pay the price. But unless it comes with warranty *and be carefull on this*there are better cars around for not much more,As a ps I like them, had one, but with 2 litre unit manual-more greif than it was worth.Up to you really but be *carefull*
