Megane 1.9dCi - Xileno {P}
Can anyone tell me what is the real world economy of this engine? i.e. some A roads, bit of town driving etc.
It's got the 6 speed box.
Thanks

That is one slow car ;-)

I drive an old model 2002 Megane 1.9dci (5 speed box) as a company car and in mixed driving it averages 48mpg to 55mpg however hard it is thrashed. Steady 70mph on the motorway indicates 62 mpg on the computer! Less navigating in towns and a few longer runs always gets into the +50 mpg range.

Thanks.
If you're wondering, I've seen one in the Renault garage I use, with nice leather etc. I'm thinking of trading up from the 1.5dCi

the 1.9 is a really really nice lump. Smooth, quiet, and has punch when needed. Push it hard round town and it will drop to 44mpg, cruise at 70 in 6th (2000 revs) and it wil give you 55-60 mpg

I have the Scenic version and I average the very low 40's when SWMBO is using it for a few miles each way in rush hour traffic to college. When we went on holiday up to Fort William etc, my overall average was 49.5mpg.
An absolutely fabulous engine, would imagine it would be even nippier and more economical in a Megane.

Meant to say, for best economy , don't use 6th gear till you are doing about 50mph, even though it will sit quite happily in 6th at 40.
